To say the least, this year hasn’t been without its challenges.

But while the building and construction industry managed to make it through 2020 relatively unscathed in spite of COVID restrictions, the past 12 months has been much, much tougher.

Indeed, the past six months in particular has been a nightmare for builders – including the ludicrous decision by former NSW Premier Gladys Berejyklian to suspend the entire building and construction industry for weeks, without notice, during Sydney’s 106-day lockdown between July and October.

Building companies like Yes I Can Renovations – whose ‘bread and butter’ jobs include bathroom, kitchen and full home renovations - have been especially hard hit with our tradesmen unable attend some job sites for weeks and weeks on end, owing to Health Department restrictions.

This has obviously led to a delay in the completion of some of our projects and we thank our customers sincerely for their patience and understanding.

A huge post-lockdown increase (around 30 percent almost across the board) in the price of basic building materials including timber and stone led to Yes I Can Renovations deciding to absorb those costs in order to honour our original quotes – made pre-lockdown – to our customers.

When these price hikes will stop or even slow down is anybody’s guess but one thing that we do know for certain is that inflation doesn’t go backwards.

The unavailability of certain building materials has also made life interesting to say the least, in our determined efforts to have as many of our current projects as possible finished prior to the Christmas – New Year break.

But that’s why our motto is: “At Yes I Can, if we can’t do it, no one can!”
