The first Sunday of September every year is universally celebrated as Father’s Day, when we are given the opportunity to honour our dads - the men in our lives who have done so much for us and who (along with our mums of course!) greatly assisted in moulding us into the people we are today.

 

Dedicating a special day to honour our dads was an idea spawned in the United States of America in the early 1900’s and it is a red letter day for Australians as well, as we all love ‘dear old dad’!

 

Sadly, in many parts of New South Wales and Victoria at least, we will be celebrating Father’s Day with a difference in 2021, with Greater Sydney currently in strict lockdown, meaning that visits to the family home to see your dad are out of the question for this year.

 

Handshakes and kisses will be replaced by phone calls, FaceTime, WhatsApp and Zoom chats while instead of warm embraces, virtual hugs will have to suffice instead….for this year, anyway.

 

One tradition that can thankfully be maintained is buying your dad a gift for Father’s Day - although for Sydneysiders at least, in most instances and for obvious reasons, you won’t be able to hand over the present in person.

 

Or not right now, anyway!

 

Choosing an appropriate gift for your father - a present that he will always cherish - is an onerous task and one that can require a lot of thought.

 

The task at hand is usually made a lot easier by taking a stroll through places like Bunnings, Hardware House, Mitre 10, Supercheap Auto, JB Hi-Fi, Officeworks, Chemist Warehouse or your nearest nursery/gardening centre.

 

But that isn’t even an option for now, with all but essential retailers currently closed to the public in Greater Sydney and ‘contactless click and collect’ being the most appropriate method of acquiring hardware, home entertainment, auto, self-grooming and gardening purchases.

 

So it’s either contactless click and collect or you can have the gift that you purchase posted or otherwise delivered to you, which means you will have to act quickly in either case as Father’s Day is now only a handful of days away!
